Under the auspices of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, the King of the Royal Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (may God strengthen him with His grace and succour), we conclude this seventeenth conference in the city of Amman, having just authorized a new structure for our Academy ahead of the conference of foreign ministers in Baku in the Republic of Azerbaijan, during the days 28 Jumada I - 2 Jumada I I1427/ 24-28 June 2006. The conclusion of this conference in this hospitable country comes in response to the generous invitation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, may God reward her well. The conference was held with the participation of the Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Amman and the Secretariat of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy. His Majesty appointed His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, his Personal Envoy and Special Advisor as well as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, to deliver His Majesty's remarks during the opening session. They reaffirmed support for the new structure of the Academy, and also reaffirmed the importance and timeliness of the subjects set out to be discussed in this blessed meeting, and which include theological, intellectual, jurispru-dential, social, economic, international, and medical questions, in addition to taking up the question of Islamic minorities.

The opening session was attended by a number of statesmen and international dignitaries, and authorized members of the diplomatic corps, a delegation of scholars and thinkers from universities and cultural institutes in Jordan, and members of the Academy and its esteemed experts. We are deeply saddened that Dr. Shaykh Bakr ibn Abdullah Abu Zayd, the president of the Academy, could not be here due to health reasons. We ask God to grant him a speedy recovery.

Among those who participated in the conference were appointed members, specialists, and experts. The activities of this session took place over the course of five days, with a great deal of effort, discussion, and debate. Eventually eleven subjects were discussed in this session, and fifty-seven documents were submitted. The issues and questions were debated with the careful participation of the honored members and experts, in eight meetings, which resulted in the resolutions and recommendations you have already heard. They were organized by the steering committee, to whom we are extremely grateful, and were confirmed by the working members after debating them in a special meeting.

A very important declaration on Jerusalem, the al-Aqsa Mosque, Iraq, and Somalia was announced.
